The CSC plate (also "CSC Safety Approval Plate") goes back to the 1972 Convention for Safe Containers. It is usually located on the left container door and states the country of approval, date of manufacture, maximum gross weight, stacking and racking load values, and the date of the next inspection (ACEP or periodic examination).
For overseas use, a valid CSC plate is mandatory – without it, the container will not be loaded onto a ship. For purely stationary use as storage on your own property, the plate is irrelevant; a container without a valid plate is perfectly fine there and usually cheaper.
