Discover what is possible with containers
Whether for living, working, leisure or business – containers offer creative solutions for almost any project. These examples show how versatile they can be.
Tiny houses
Containers are ideal for modern tiny houses that can be designed to your individual wishes. With tailor-made floor plans, high-quality insulation and luxurious interior fittings, they become comfortable living modules that can be used both as a temporary living solution and as a durable prefabricated house. Thanks to the modular construction, even multi-storey container houses are possible – flexible, sustainable and a real eye-catcher for any property.
Food service & kiosk
Food service containers provide an ideal basis for mobile business concepts. Thanks to their robust construction and high mobility, they are easy to transport and can be used at different locations. Whether as a pop-up restaurant, food truck, café or kiosk – container solutions enable creative, cost-efficient food service concepts that can be realised quickly and are perfect for festivals, events or city centres.
Modular accommodation
Container accommodation is now considered a modern, sustainable and economical alternative to conventional buildings. It stands out for its high stability, flexible uses and short construction times. Whether as temporary accommodation, workers' housing, student living module or long-term housing solution – modular containers offer climate-friendly living with impressive design freedom and efficient energy use.
Swimming pool made from containers
With a container pool, you create a trendy, durable and cost-efficient alternative to a classic in-ground pool. Thanks to their stable steel construction, containers provide ideal conditions for a modern swimming pool that can be set up quickly and designed individually. The generous height allows for versatile use – from a relaxing swim to sporty lap swimming in your own garden.
Sauna made from containers
A container is ideal for conversion into a private sauna, as the steel structure combined with professional insulation provides optimal heat retention. Whether a classic Finnish sauna, a modern infrared sauna or a combination of both – a container creates your very own wellness area that can be used all year round and integrates perfectly into your garden or property.
Gym in a container
A fitness container is an ideal solution if you lack space for exercise equipment at home. The stable construction provides enough room for strength training, cardio or functional workouts – regardless of the weather and available for private use at any time. Individually equipped, well insulated and air-conditioned on request, a gym in a container offers maximum flexibility for effective training right at home.
Shop & storage space
Containers are ideal as retail space, pop-up boutiques or cost-efficient storage solutions. They reliably protect your goods from weather, vandalism and moisture while offering plenty of room for customisation. For temperature-sensitive products, the space can also be fitted with climate control or insulation. This creates flexible shop and storage concepts that work well in both retail and wholesale.

Container projects at a glance: what can be built with shipping containers
A shipping container is a standardised steel box (20 or 40 ft) that can be transported, stacked and fitted out. On this page we show typical ideas for using containers; you can find completed projects under Projects & references: bar container, stage, dosing station, sauna, gym, kiosk, accommodation and storage. Which level of fit-out makes sense depends on use, insulation, technical equipment and permits.
| Project | Typical base | Main fit-out steps |
|---|---|---|
| Bar/kiosk container | 20 ft, used, painted | Serving hatch with canopy, staff door, interior fit-out, electricity and water |
| Sauna / wellness | 20 or 40 ft | Insulation with vapour barrier, wood panelling, stove, ventilation |
| Gym or home gym | 20 or 40 ft High Cube | Insulation, flooring, windows, air conditioning if required |
| Stage / event | Multiple containers, Open Side possible | Painting, open side walls, stability, quick assembly and disassembly |
| Technical/dosing station | 20 ft High Cube Open Side | Installations such as tank and pump, controls, modular expansion |
Frequently asked questions about container projects
Do I need a building permit for a container project?
That depends on the use, size, location and federal state. A container used purely for storage is often assessed differently from a residential, office or catering container. Check this with the responsible building authority before buying. You can find the basics in the guide Shipping containers and building permits.
Does a container used as a sauna, office or living space need to be insulated?
Yes. Bare sheet steel conducts heat well and promotes condensation. Occupied rooms require insulation, a vapour barrier and ventilation. Details: Insulating containers.
How much does a container conversion cost?
The price consists of the container and the fit-out. You can find indicative prices for the container at How much does a shipping container cost. For the conversion, we prepare an individual quote based on your description: Request a quote.
Which container is suitable as a base?
For fit-outs, High Cube containers with an external height of about 2,90 m are popular because more ceiling height remains after insulation. Open Side and Double Door variants make large openings easier. See High Cube and Open Side in the container glossary.
Do you paint containers in a colour of my choice?
Yes, for example in RAL 7016 anthracite grey. Examples and process: Painting containers.
How do I start my own project?
Describe the intended use, size and location. We advise on containers, conversion and delivery: Contact and consultation or directly Request a quote. Further reading: Converting shipping containers: ideas and costs.
