What does it cost to rent a storage container?
The rental price depends on size and term, plus one-off costs for delivery, offloading and collection. Four factors drive the price:
- Size – a 40 ft container costs more than two 20 ft containers, but offers a continuous floor area
- Term – a longer rental period often lowers the monthly price
- Transport distance from the nearest depot
- Offloading conditions – a crane truck for precise offloading costs more than a tilt chassis

Delivery, site and permit
We deliver from Hamburg throughout Germany. For placement you need a load-bearing, level surface (compacted gravel, concrete slabs or asphalt) and clear truck access; for the loader crane you also need space to the side for slewing. A poured foundation is not required.
If the container is used for storage only, a building permit is usually not required – this can change above a certain volume or for permanent installation: Shipping container building permit.
Rent or buy a storage container?
As a rule of thumb: after about 12 to 18 months of use, the total rent exceeds the purchase price. For time-limited projects, renting is more flexible and involves no resale effort. The full comparison: Buy or rent a container. If you want to buy: buy used shipping containers.
