The Twistlock is the standard connecting element in container logistics. Its mushroom-shaped head is inserted into the standardised opening of the corner fitting and turned by 90° – this creates a positive-locking connection that absorbs tensile and shear forces.
Twistlocks secure containers to each other on the ship, on the truck chassis and in the stack. For stationary setups, they are used to couple two containers standing side by side or to secure a container against slipping. Semi-automatic versions lock themselves when the container is set down and only need to be operated by hand to release.
