The Container floor is a load-bearing layer of glued multilayer plywood, around 28 mm thick, screwed onto the transverse steel beams. Formerly tropical wood, today mostly bamboo or softwood composite panels. The surface has a slip-resistant phenolic resin coating (hence “film-faced plywood”).
From the factory, the floor is treated against wood pests with insecticides (permethrin or similar) – not a concern for storage, but for occupied rooms and food contact the floor is sealed or replaced. When buying used, the floor is the most important inspection point: it must be solid and must not be rotted through, swollen or rusted through (from below).
Inspection checklist: buy used shipping containers.
