A Thermal bridge is an area where heat flows outward faster than through the surface next to it. In an insulated container, these are the continuous steel sections: corner posts, crane frame, floor beams, door frames. They connect the inside and outside directly and become cold in winter.
Consequence: at the thermal bridge, the surface temperature drops below the dew point, condensation forms, and in the long term mould and corrosion. Therefore the insulation layer must run continuously in front of the steel without any counter-battens touching the steel. Ideally, insulate directly onto the steel (spray foam or bonded boards) and fit the battens only on top of the insulation.
In practice: Insulating containers.
