A container has long been more than just transport or storage space. With the right paint finish and targeted conversions, it becomes a professional solution that suits the project visually and works better in everyday use – whether for logistics, construction, industry or events.
We have recently repainted a 20′ High Cube Open Side in RAL 7016 (anthracite grey). And if desired, we go even further: We modify containers individually – from doors and windows to ventilation, cable entries, wall openings or floor conversion.
Why RAL 7016 (anthracite grey) is so popular worldwide
In the container industry it is often emphasised that RAL 7016 is frequently requested internationally for container projects – especially when a project should look timeless, high-quality and clean. Anthracite combines very well (e.g. with wood, metal, glass and many corporate design colours) and suits both urban and industrial environments.
An additional practical advantage: Dark, neutral tones often look easier to maintain in everyday use, because slight traces of dust or typical signs of use are less noticeable than with very light colours.
Repainting: appearance, protection, value retention
Professional repainting is more than just new paint. It serves three goals at once: appearance, protection and value retention. The container gets a uniform look, the surface is matched to the demands it will later face, and the material stays well maintained and ready for use in the long term.
Depending on the initial condition, the process typically includes:
- Surface preparation (cleaning, degreasing and, depending on condition, sanding/
rust removal), - primer and coating (suitable paint system),
- drying and quality check (coverage, edges, corners, transitions),
- a finish (partial areas or full paint job – exterior/
interior as needed).
Why do customers choose a 20' HC Open Side?
The 20′ High Cube Open Side is often chosen when maximum access and fast loading and unloading processes are crucial in day-to-day use. Unlike standard containers, an Open Side container can be opened along the entire long side – which makes handling bulky, long or palletised goods much easier and more efficient.
Another advantage of the High Cube version is the greater interior height. This means more usable volume and more flexibility, for example for storage, conversion projects or installing technical systems and fittings.
If you would like to compare different models, you will also find more containers and can choose the right solution for your project.
Custom container conversion: Which modifications are possible?
A standard container is often not enough in everyday use because it does not fit real workflows and requirements. That is why, in addition to repainting, we also handle modifications and conversions – for example:
1) Doors and windows as required
When a container is used as a room, convenient access and – depending on use – daylight are important. We can cut out additional doors and/
Typical requests:
- a separate staff entrance instead of or in addition to the standard container doors,
- side doors for better logistics workflows,
- windows for daylight and visual contact.
2) Openings / grilles for ventilation
For storage, technical containers or workshop solutions, air exchange is often useful. We install ventilation openings and/
3) Openings for power supply (cable entry)
If the container is to be connected to the power grid (lighting, equipment, technical systems), a well-thought-out and practical solution is needed. We create an opening or cable entry for the power supply, tailored to your on-site setup.
4) Wall cut-out / large opening
Sometimes doors and windows are not enough. For certain tasks, a wall has to be opened partially or over a large area – e.g. for access to equipment, connection to other modules or for a special loading and unloading setup.
For large cut-outs, we plan the work individually for each project – e.g. with suitable frames/
5) Floor to suit the use – example: steel floor
A standard wooden floor is not ideal for every application. Sometimes a different solution makes sense, e.g. when:
heavy loads or heavy equipment are used,
easier cleaning is required,
there are special usage requirements (e.g. workshop).
For one customer, for example, we implemented a steel floor – a robust solution when wear resistance and suitability for everyday use are the priority.

Why customers value a "one-stop service": painting + conversion
One point of contact instead of several different trades
Appearance and function are planned together (colour, cut-outs, technical solutions)
Faster implementation and less coordination effort
Flexibility: from small adjustments to complex custom solutions

1. Can I choose a colour other than RAL 7016?
Yes. RAL 7016 is in high demand, but we also paint containers in other RAL colours, depending on your wishes and project.
2. Do you paint only the outside or the inside as well?
Both are possible. Whether interior painting makes sense depends on how the container will be used.
3. Are window and door cut-outs possible for every container?
In many cases, yes. The specific implementation depends on the container type and the extent of the cut-outs you want.
4. Can ventilation and power supply be combined?
Yes. This is a very typical combination, especially for technical or work containers.
5. How does the enquiry process work?
You send us the container type, intended use, desired colour (e.g. RAL 7016) and the modifications you want. We propose a suitable solution – including transport/
